Does anyone know how much I can shave off my hear, how much I neet to go to pick up a point on my compression or where I can find this info at? I'm working on a 94 cavileer 2.2L 4 cyl with the ohv. I am also considering getting a competition valve job done.

Generally, around .005" will get you .1 compression gain. Most late model aluminum heads can't be milled much (.020" is pushing it) without having trouble. You might be able to cut more and get away with it on a race motor, but you'll still run into trouble with pushrod length/lifter preload. It's not as easy as cutting the head and stuffing it back on.

I called a machine shop and he said that he recomended around .020" wich would give me .5 in my compression for around $45 to mill my head down that much. I figured I would have around $150 to mill my head, get my gasket, and have a 3 angle valve job. Do you think I would gain much for the money here? there isn't much I could do without pulling the motor, and rebuilding it (Bore the cylinder walls, and deck the block ect.) I am trying to do for now without pulling my motor out. I know computerchips are around $300.

Does anyone have a sugestion on what kind of head gasket I should get for a 94 cavileer 2.2L 4cyl. I am shaving the head off, and getting a three angle valve job. I should get around a .5 gain on my compression, but I think I need a thinner head gasket than the stock style to achive this.
