Somebody GAVE me a chevy 350, upon checking the #'s on here..block i think says #355909, and i believe the # on the heads was #354434...i have been led to believe the motor is a 262(2-bolt) and the heads are 75-79 262,267, or 305....with 163/57cc ports (LW casting). I think i see why he gave it away. I wanted to build a 383. Should i trash the block and heads?....any advice is helpfull...thanks!

I personaly would trash it because it is too small of and engine and those heads are very low performance.

Yeah, upon further checking of #'s...it could be a 305 block...which i would imagine it is. I have always stayed clear of them,so i didn't know right off ...if the block was about the same as a 350..just bore it out or what. Are the 305 blocks pretty much junk?

Keep the heads and the crank. Sell 'em to somebody on a limited budget or who is required by rule to run 'em.

It was from a buddy that "collects" things..as in, finding things to lay around his yard and garage..lol.He thought it was a 350 block and heads. I just noticed from a archive search...there were several people saying the #354434 heads were good 305 heads...kinda confusing, from what i've heard on my own...

I was toying with dropping in a 400 crank. But, as i read the archives...i guess it would be stupid to bore a 305 out, to a 350...money wise.

355909 76-79 305,better than a 262 but not for racing. The crank is the same stroke as a 350 but not balanced the same, the rods are the same.

305's use a 3.7sumthing bore compared to 4.0" for a 350. There's no way to bore a 305 out to be anything meaningfully larger. You'd get like 315 CID with a .060" over and that's pushing it pretty far on a race motor. 305 blocks are weak and break main webs, so it's a boat anchor.

434 heads are standard 305 heads. 601 castings are the only HP 305 head ever made. Came on 82-85 (give or take a year) HO 305s in F-bodies.
