i'm planning on building an enduro car to run 200 laps on a pretty big 1/2 mile my question is will a pont 400 stay cool long enough turning about 5800 for that long i know in our old cruiser we always had troubles keeping it cool but that was running on 7 cylenders and with a 2 core radiator this will have a bigger carb and a 4 core radiator or do you guys think i would be better off in the long run sticking with a chevy 350

I have been running Pontiacs in a street stock class for four years now and love them. I don't think you should have any more trouble keeping a Pontiac cool than you would a Chevy. If you still have the heads off and have Fel-Pro head gaskets look at the extra coolant hole in the gasket between the center cylinders on each side. If I remember correctly the ram-air or super duty motors were the only ones drilled for this but the gaskets have the hole to fit all the motors. Just use the gasket as a template and drill the head and block to match, if I remember correctly it's a qaurter inch drill bit. An old timer told me this was good for ten degrees. Also where the water bypass is betweeen the intake manifold and the water pump can be blocked off with a pipe plug in the intake. Hope this helps if I didn't make any sense let me know I'll try again.

nope can't say as i do we don't have to many enduros in this area any mostly southern iowa and i'm nc part so i don't get down that way to often but i'm willing to bet if he goes all the way down there he will be here beings it's gonna be 1200 to win this first one then if they get a decent car count they plan on running 5-6 next year and having a points series so i'll probably just run those next year unless i can find a better job and get a b mod built

He really made it look easy,i guess it's a race 'bout tires more than anything else,it was an old dodge charger just like the old dukes of hazzard car with a 440 for an engine.
