check and see if you are still geting water in the oil, if you are, drop the pan and pressureize the cooling system and bar the engine over. you could have a hole or crack in a cyl. wall

On your fifth night was the track conditions the same as usual. And also you said that you didnt have enough gear. Try going up on your gear to see if it helps. Too much of a load on a motor will heat one up in a hurry.

i think the problem is the pump gas. octane to low and will over heat. go to a higher octane and see what that does. it should lower temp about 40deg

You said you reset timing what was it before? to much timing and not enough fuel can make it run hot.

Were you running a flex fan?

dirtbandit,

Do you know what the problem was. We are having a similar problem. On ours when you go to cool it down it cools down really quickly without even revving the engine. Does this tell you anything about what could possibly be the problem. I have heard that if your water is going too fast or too slow through the radiator it will cause the engine to overheat.

We have a new radiator, run good gas, and have a good fan shroud.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Baker

Tilley,
Yep had a flex fan that contributed to the problem. Also had the belt slipping to the water pump. Put on a steel 5 blade racing fan and running double belts to the water pump and things are back to normal.

Bought a package of water restrictors and ended up using the middle size (5/8" I think). If all this did not work we were going to go to an underdrive pulley.
