Are you asking for trouble? In my opinion, no.

I've got a 383 in a 2 bolt main block. Only thing I did was switch the mains over to ARP studs, for a little added strength. And it turns 6500-6800 on a regular basis.

I agree with odb93, 2 bolt mains are actually supposed to be stronger because of the extra material.

I could be wrong in my thinking here, but when debating between 2-bolt and 4-bolt, shouldn't the compression ratio be a deciding factor?

Was told once that anything under 11:1, a
2-bolt would be fine. Over 11:1, one should definitely consider using a 4-bolt.

Anyway, just passing along what I was told.

Take care

I thought somewhere down the line a test was done where they bolted a four and a two bolt main to the floor and pulled on them and the four bolt main broke first but I could be mistaken.

I sell all 4 bolts I end up with cus people will pay for them.

My last 383 2 bolt had a 4340 lw crank billet rods, and 14-1 comp.

If you need more than a 2 bolt you should get a 2 bolt block splayed and use aftermarket caps.

Know one likes 4 bolt 400 blocks!!!! Ask any machine shop almost.

I READ ABOUT BLOCKS BOLTED TO THE FLOOR IN 1989 OR 90 IN A HOT ROD MAG. 4 BOLTS ALLWAYS BROKE FIRST, BUT THEN A CRANK DOESNT PULL ON A CAP EITHER.

I spun a 383 up to 8600 for a night last year 2 bolt ran all season on it no problems...i now have a 4 blt 400 in my car with my fingers crossed....also put block sealer in the bottom to help with flex....hope it works for about 12 more races
