I own a 95 Bronc XLT 5.0L 5 speed and use it to haul a 6x10 tandem cargo trailer 4500 lbs... Really lacks power and only get 8-9 mpg's. I am thinking of opening up the exaust a little with headers and high flow cat's and perf. mufflers but that is about $700 away.
Tell you the truth... I was happier with my Jeep Cherokee 4.0L auto... but it had a hard time stopping the trailer... even with brakes.
I hope your works out!

well i only live about 8 miles from the track and my trailer with the car loaded and reardy to go only weights 4000. so i'm not to worried about milage and power looking more to the reliability to get mom and the kids to work and school everyday and still be able to pull the car to the track on saturday

I just bought a 94' fullsize, high miles from a police auction, a little shot up, Long story, and a week long manhunt in Oregon. Put a new rad in it and drove it tried to pull the race car and it over heated , I will have to look into that. Other than that I realy like it, turns on a dime.

Just my opinion on this, the Bronco is weak on power, hard on gas, doesnt handle a trailer well. but given your situation The Bronco is fairly dependable, will get you to the track and will haul the kids your wife will probaly like it exept for mileage. You probaly wont find a vehicle that will do all this in the price range of the bronco. If the price is right go for it.

I gave $500 bones for my shot up beast. Forgot to mention that it was once stolen from the sheriffs dept. But they recovered it days later. This baby is grant co history.

careful 17j. a short wheelbase bronco is not the ideal tow vehicle. be prepared to be "sittin' up on the wheel" all the way to the track.

I used to tow with my 79 blazer with a 4"ift. It was a 1/2 ton (same as Bronco I think) I wouldnt advise it. Brakes are too small, center of gravity too high and wheelbase too short. I know have a 98 expedition and it makes all the difference in the world. I feel much safer which eliminates undue stress on race day.

I love pulling with my Bronco! (exept for the Mileage) I can get anywhere and still turn around... turning radius of VW BUG! hahahha
I can pull loaded tandem cargo trailer 75mph without any problem... no trailer sway. Of course, I made sure that the trailer is loaded right and rides level.
Only prob I have with it really is >> I want More Power and better mileage and a good looking girl in the passenger seat.... But I want that with everything!

True story.
Going to the track in buddies bronco and the trailer started to whip and we lost control and did a 180 on a 4 lane highway, we then went back home and got my truck and trailer and made it to the track.
Two weeks later buddy is going to the track again and he thinks his new stabilizer bars are gonna do the trick ,he asked if I wanted to come along for the ride of course like any life lovin racer I politely declined.
2:30 AM and my phone woke us up and it was buddies wife expaining that they needed my truck and trailer again cause they flew off the highway after doing another 180 and the race car broke the wheels off his trailer as it launched into the air ,had to drive 2 hours to get them and I didn't get to see any racing.
Well now to make a long story short buddies driving a one ton crew cab now and i went to watch once again.

Guys this is just my opinion but if you have a well balanced trailer loaded properly and everything in good shape I cant see the problem.....Towman
