Does anybody know how to replace a parking sprag in a th 350 tranny? My tow vehicle likes to roll because the sprag is broke. Can you change it without taking the tranny completely apart? Thanks.

Pull the pan and if the spring and actuator are broke you will have an easy fix but if the teeth on the drum are gone you'll have to take the whole trans out and apart.

What is the drum? Is it the gear the sprag engages into? Is it made out of plastic? I've heard they are made of a hard plastic. Thanks

it is not a 'sprag' it is actually a pawl, and no its not plastic LOL if it were i dont think it would last very long. now seriously, it could be just your guide plate loose or wornout, you need to drop pan to check. if the pawl is rounded off it can be replaced fairly easily without total trans removal and dismantle, but, if you are not a trans guy, then you would be better off taking it to one. IMO

I'll tell you what it does and you can decide what you think is wrong. If I put it in park and let it roll slowly still in park, it will eventually start to catch and go's " clong, clong, clong".So it catches on something if you let it roll far enough.

My terminology may not be right on but hopefully you know what i mean, really it could be either one you really just need to check.
