Started up the motor to break in the cam. Within 2 minutes #5 header was starting to glow orange. The motor was also missing on 1 cylinder. Checked the lash before it happened and everything was o.k. I don't know if any on the other side were glowing. Didn't go look in time. I don't care if you guys know what is wrong for sure just give me some ideas to try. Thanks guys

Is your motor runnin lean? You may try to fatten up the jets. What did the #5 plug look like? #1?

Didn't have time to look at the plugs had to head home. I think its lean but why just one cylinder? 78 jets in a quadrajet. 355 10.5 1 Bowtie heads 530-550 lift cam. Same jets as a buddy had w/same motor setup.

Too tight of valve lash on that cylinder most likely . Or you can look at the ignition timing being too retarded . It could also be too rich , and have the fuel still burning as it comes out the pipes . There are a number of other thing's it could be as well , but i'd start here first .
