check your plugs and see what they look like sounds like a rich condition to me and after the headers came up to temp was igniting the unburnt fuel that had collected in them

plugs look a lil grayish. this is a gas motor. and it is also has a hyd. cam. i've been told every thing from valves to carb not adjusted right to timing. Would a vacume cause this problem also??????????

First things first look at your timming and seeif it is 34 to 36 degrees (Whats your compression ratio) No a vacum leak wouldnt cause that it would cause it to run lean becasu it would get to much air and not enough fuel I would bet that your to rich an dit is washing the color off what carb is it and what heat range are you using if your are running ti hot of plug it will cause the plug to pre detonate your fuel on entry when the cam overlaps from exhaust to intake your plug hasnt cooled down yet and is still trying to burn try 2 heat ranges down
Let me know if anything works if not we will figure something out
