We picked up a mexican crate motor.
The rods look like LT1 PM rods. Is
That what they would put in a crate
motor?

As far as I know GM has put those in all the performance crate motors the last few years.

How do you balance pm rods? Or are they
already. Theres no pad to grind on like
the others.

it seems like i remember reading somewhere that due to the production process the PM rods can be produced with more accuracy and that they are almost all balanced or weight matched to ea other straight out of the mold. Therefore very little if any grinding would have to be done to match them. If i find the article i will post it or let you know more details.

a machinist will still need to balance them, he will sand on the bottom of the cap, they are within 3-5 grams.. i have ran them for the last 5 years.

i would buy aftermarket CAT.SIR. or EAGLES though as they are cheaper than rod bolts and reman. and way way better, the pm rods break, clean off.

you can get the after market stock appearing rods i mentioned above from go fast stuff.com for 160 on special floated!!!!!!!!

66jj, I've not heard anything but horror stories about the pm rods. My machinist won't have anything to do woth them. He doesn't care much for the Eagle H-beams either.

whats so horrible ive been useing them, new floated for 280, now that there are all kinds of rods for 160-200 aftermarket i use them..

ive built 4 motors with eagles all the rods were checked really really well and were fine and within a gram or 2 also..

my machinist was all against eagle also, cus supposedly 10 years ago they had sizing problems etc...

heck anyone over 75-80 thinks foreign cars are junk, right!!!!
