3/4 or 5/8 tubes and heims?
What are most of you using for bars on your 4 link cars?

Anybody using 5/8 for everything?

Also does anybody know if it is possible to get a tube 5/8 one end and 3/4 the other. Afco has some listed but only 22 and 23 inch. I neew more like 11 and 13.

The reason i wanted the 5/8-3/4 tubes is because i wanted to run 5/8 ends on my BC because the A-1 BC is drilled for a 5/8 bolt, but my chassis has 3/4 holes. The way the car came from DW(its a dw9)it has 3/4" ends with inserts to 5/8 bolt on the BC but the rod end just fits between the tabs on the BC and when you tighten it down that doesnt leave much room for misalignment sideways, without either the rod end or jam nut binding on the tab. Thats why i wanted to go to a 5/8 end and use some spacers to keep it centered for more clearance between the tabs on the BC, but that means i have to make a set of reducer bushings for the 3/4 holes in my chassis.

Anybody else run into this? Anybody have any problems with the A1 birdcage?

I made my own bars last year, 3/4 on the chassis, 5/8 on the BC. This year I am going to run 5/8 on both sides, 3/4 on the panhard bar

JUST MAKE SOME 5/8 BUSHINGS TO CONVERT THE CAR,IT WILL LIGHTEN THE CAR UP AND GIVE IT BETTER RANGE OF MOTION.NOT TO MENTION ELIMINATE HAVING TO FAB RODS OR EXPENSIVE CUSTOM ORDERS.

I have the bushings and they do fit. Thats not the problem. It just appears to me that the body of the 3/4 end is so big it cannot be angled very much without binding. The 5/8 end is enough smaller i think it would almost double the amount of movement before binding.

I think what i will do is switch everything to 5/8 and just use a shouldered bushing in the 3/4 chassis holes to make everythign fit.

Dirtbuster- I run a DW8 4 bar car with A-1 birdcages and don't have any problems using the 3/4 heims. Just make sure the birdcages are aligned properly on the axle with the links running parallel to slightly inward at the chassis points, and you'll be fine. You don't need to reinvent the wheel on this one. I would be more concerned about the A-1 birdcages. They do get alot of sideways play in them after running a couple of races. Keep a close eye on the retainer clamps and make sure they stay tight against the birdcages.

I assumed they must work the way they are because there have been alot of the dw-9s coming out and i am sure they are all that way and Gary Clark seems to be doing pretty well and it must not be a problem for him. I just liked the idea of having as much leeway as possible. Also it looked like the jam nut was going to cause the most problem, but then again i dont have anything really set yet, I am just eyeballing it and looking for things that might cause headaches in the future.

Also about the A1 birdcage you metnioned sideplay? I noticed that even on our new ones you can grab top and bottom and move them, similar to a loose wheel bearing. Are you saying this gets worse or the retaining rings have a tendency to move?
Also how long do the A1 bc hold up before either needign replaced or new bearings?
