That is a torque arm/lift arm setup not a torque link. On this setup it is better to leave off the shock and use just the spring and then the chain hooked to the rubber biscuits for braking to help keep the tires loaded. The shock on the rearend going up to the chassis is for braking also, it would be a 90-10 shock, axle dampner.

the short bar that you are talking about . does one in hook up to the same place on the chassis as the j bar and the other on the other side of the pinon. if so do i need to get ride of the long bar behined the rearend ? I am also just starting . I have a 1997 Hot chassis 3 link spring on top with long pullbar with spring and rubber bisket with the long bar behind the rearend

put it on spring sliders would be easiest then just mount them like a shock on the fornt of the axle, as far as jack bolts you can make a mount (some work) that will move the jack bolt(or give another location) to the front of the rearend.
