Ok what is the best way to square the rearend.... from the front lower balljoints or from the actual tire contact patches which takes into account the caster setback at the front wheels?

I use the wheel hub and measure with the tires off. plumb bobs around the lower lug with a level across the top two. Doesn't account for camber, but should be close anyhow. I'd like to try lazers, but can't afford them.

I use a lazer setup that we use at our shop to set trackage on hvy trucks. It is the fastest & most accurate way to square the rear housing. I run my car with the rr leading to tighten the car up.

It depends on the chassis. We measure ours from the motor plate, but our motor sits square in the car. Yours may not. ltr spde
