I have a metric IMCA hobby stock that I race on a 1/3 mile medium banked track. It has a saginaw 3 speed and 205 70 15 tires with a 6.50 gear. I am going to a 1/2 mile flat track for one race. I would like to know if I need to change to a different gear? If so which one?
Thanks

is it 1/2 on the inside outside or midle that makes a big difference here we run a 1/2 on the outside and run a 6.0 we go to one thats a 1/2 on the inside and run a 5.43 or 5.67 middle run a 5.83

You'll have to play with the gear selection to obtain what is right for you. Track conditions, exact length, shape (oval, D-shape, paper-clip) are all factors.

1/2 mile dirt tracks running hobby stock (street, pure, bomber) engine rules, usually require something like 538, 543, 567 gear, but you'll have to decide what limits you desire to put on your engine RPM's.

Good Luck & Have A Great Day,

one thing you havw to keep in mind guys with the imca rule package you have to keep those 9-1 motors wound pretty tight to keep your momentum up with the lack of power
