what do you mean by not working does it turn real hard, skip, leak or what are you sure your lines are not backwards?

ive got the lines hooked up right, when the engine is running the wheels are real hard to turn and when i turn hard to the right or left it doesnt put a load on the motor like normal.

have you cranked the wheel all the way on bolth sides and held it there for a little bit to get the air out of the system?

what if you put the front end on jackstands so the wheels are off the ground. then when you turn the steering wheel, is it still hard to turn?

There is an adjustment to set the amount of play in the power steering
unit itself. have you tried that adjustment?

your pump is not working I believe, otherwise the engine would respond to stress

i tried hooking the lines up backwards,to see if maybe i had them on wrong, it was almost impossible to turn then, does that mean that the pump is working? im tieing the hoses together for this weekend just to get me on the track. but i'd really like to get this power steering thing figured out.
I appreciate everybody's help ,trust me im listening, and willing to try anything. so far ive went through 3 different pumps and 4 steering boxes and 2 sets of lines, tried jacking up the front end to bleed out the air but it never bogs the motor down, the only time it did bog down was when i installed them on backwards.

thanks,

This is a shot in the dark, since I was having problems with my PS earlier.

First... I do not have much PS unless the rpms's are up. Driving the car the ps works good.

Second.. I had a return line that was collapsing.

Third.. I had to bleed the ps unit as described above by racer17j.

Good Luck.

take the steering shaft off at the gear and turn the wheel to make sure nothing is binding(u-joints, heims ect..)

thanks guys I think I found the problem, It looks im using too weak of line for my return and its collapsing at the very back of the pump, I'm going to get some new line tomorow and give it a shot.
