What are the some casting numbers for the vortec heads and what years were they used. Is there a quick oustside ID of some sort like used on the old heads, so you dont have to open every motor in the junk yard(excuse me, I was told those are family air looms not junk.Lol)

Yes that is correct.

You will sometimes hear people refer to the mid-80's Corvette & Camaro heads referred to as Vortecs, but they are not the true Vortecs that people want.

Thanks, I think that is exactly why I thought they were made from the late 80's.

Actually the true vortec head didnt come out until late 95. Meaning the 8 bolt intake and no crossover. Some of the '87 up TBI heads are mistaken for vortec but really arent.

Dirt Buster is right the Vortec casting was released in 1994 on 1995 model year trucks. The earlier heads had the vertical bolts like the vortec but did not have the runners or the ports of the vortec. The runners on the Vortec are 175cc and the previous heads were at about 130cc
