Here's the deal, our track has been redone this year. Last year it was a true quarter mile with just a little bank and tight turns. Now the track has a D shape with twice the banking and the turns a little more open. Also it is only supposed to be 20 feet longer.

6.50 gears were the choice last year at 6400 to 6500 RPMs. I am thinking that even though the length has not changed much the higher banking will allow for more speed. I am looking at using a 6.20 what are some opinions?

Thanks
Jim

This is just my opinion but I think I would stick with the 6.50 Ive ran for yrs. on 1/4 mile tracks and ran from a 6.50 to a 7.20 with about a 86 roll tire.....I like a little more gear than not enough....No more length change than your supposed to have Id spend the extra money on something else....But we will see what some of the other guys say...Good luck......towman

This will be with roughly an 83 roll tire.

guys at boone run a 6.50 with 83 in roll and it's a 1/3 mile you should be just fine if nothing else try a little taller tire and see how that works for you then your not out as much as a $400 gear a 6.20 is more of a 3/8 4/10 friendly gear with 83 in roll
