This head has very poor flow numbers. The valve is shrouded and needs alot of work to make them work a well as a stock 350.(441,882,624,186,461,462,487,)all are better choice's.the duble hump's are the best.the last four # are those.

The HO 305's had 1.84" and 1.5" valves and 58cc chambers. With some work, 1.94" and 1.6" valves can be fit and chambers around 52-54cc aren't that hard to get with aftermarket valves and a cleanup mill. 54cc versus 64cc is about 1 to 1.2 compression points and makes up for those lower flow numbers on motors that don't rev past 5500-6000 rpm much.

All depends on what you wanna do with them.

racinrob, 487's are not double hump heads. They are 76cc heads, probably the best flowing large chamber heads. The double hump (camel hump) heads are all pretty similar, all 64ish cc combustion chambers. Those included are 186/492(small camel humps), 291, 461,461x and 462. Of these, probably the best flowing are 492 angle plug heads, but scarce as hen's teeth.

shifty yes it will help to run a good coil and modual but i'm willing to bet he had stock valve springs also as for the stamp i don't rember the coil or mod i bought for my street car haveing gm markings if you run an accell modual they look identical just take the sticker off and a msd stock coil doesn't have any markings on it either

you'll get 100 different stories about how much you can turn with a stock mod. i've alway been told 4500 and it startes to fall off. get yourself an accell mod and msd replacement coil and a set of z-28 springs and it should turn 6500 or more all day long. i had that problem a couple years ago would only turn 5800 changed springs and now it will turn 7000 if i want it to

up the coil too if you got the cash then u can openplug gapi run a dui set up with plug gap at 50 very crisp pay atention as we all know to valve springs lifters and cam profile itll tell you maxrpm and valve float. i ran my stock dist 6000 grand easy and rand the car with a hair more gear next season with the dui ign and ran her flat near end of straight valves floated out at 6200 got to reading cam card a little closer and it said it right on the card i think it said like 6100 or somthing this was a few years ago.
