Probably best to hear from scott first but: I've always put the yoke in all the way then pulled it out 1" and measured there.

I run a 350 with a 3 speed gm 8.5" 10bolt.
When slip yoke is engaged into tranny, I only
see about 3/4" of the shinny slip yoke.

Dont know about the depth of the slip yoke but the vibration could in part be not having the tires balanced. Its just a thought but I'm sure that could cause some of the steering wheel vibration.

With a stock type slip yoke you should have 1"-1 1/4" between rear seal and shoulder on yoke with car setting on ground.
