I leave the stock shocks to help absorb a rear hit so the frame won't bend easy, the only thing i'd do is run a chain to keep it from being pulled out too far.

heres a suggestion take the stock bumper shocks off and replace them with tubing slide one pipe into another and run a soft bolt through a hole drilled through both thast way you get hit then the bolts will snap instead of tearing the bumper up but justa sugg bigbob#7

that works good untill it gets hit and one side falls off and the other stays put and you get dq'sd for a dragging bumper the isolators absorb the shock and will hold the bumper on unless you hook it then even a welded solid bumper will rip off. we always just use the stock mounts and a 1/4 in wire cable hooked thru the bumper and around the rear bars to hold it on if it comes un hooked we also use aluminum or the plastic that you can make skirts out of and cap the bumpers off to the body keeps somebody from hooking you and ripping it off

Sounds to me like one of two things is goin on, either your in a lot of peoples way or
you need to be using the front bumper on the
car to pay back some folks and to let them know where you stand. If they tap me a couple of times then I need to get over(if Im that slow) If they're stupid enuf to push me then let em stay back there. If they're tearin up my car , they only get one warning in the pits then its on. Sometimes you gotta take a stand or get run over.
my opinion only, but I just relaced $500 worth of stuff cause I let the "track champ"
get away with some bumpin last week and this week He took me out in turn one cause I outran him into the turn. His trailer will be loaded early this week comin up, bet on it.
Light it up, Baby!

bob at our track they invert so the slow cars are up front and they have a tendance to brake stack us because they are afraid of getting called for jumping and then it's a chain reaction of bumper tag no harm intended but it's still going on thats why i say a shear pin or bolt is a bad idea many nites i would have gone straight to the pits if my bumpers where mounted solid

Get an aftermarket (http://www.performancebodies.com/2002%20catalog/nose&tails/montecarloSS.html) rear bumper cover and build your own bumper. Mine's made out of 1 3/4" rollbar with 2 bars for the bumper itself, supports inside the frame rails, supports up to the cage under the decklid and NEVER bends. If it were to get ripped off, the back half of the car would have to break. Of course now towards the end of the season and I'm getting the hang of driving, I'm paying back some of the people that had tested it earlier in the year.
