I would like some input on what gear to use.
I am going to use a saginaw 3 speed in high gear on a 3/8 mile track with 205 75 15 tires.

I would say a 6.50 would be a good starting point.

Its gonna vary some from track to track there all a little shorter or longer depending on how they measure it but I suggest 6.50 to 6.80 depending on your set up and how hard you want to twist it....Towman

I've ran a 3/8 track measured on the outside with a 7.17 final and 92 inches of rollout and turned it 6500. Went to 88 inches of rollout and turned it 6900. Ran another track measuring 3/8 on the inside with a 6.26 final and 88 inches of rollout and cranked it 6200, upped my final to 6.52 and turned 6800. Same track with 82 inches of rollout and a 6.86 turned 7000. Go figure.

that will be about a 84 in tire on a 3/8 a 6.50 your gonna turn around 72-7500 try a 6.20-6.33 put you in the 65-6800 range we run the same tires and 6.50 gear on 1/4 miles and turn 6800

I have 3.73 in now with pwerglide in low. 1/4 mile dirt, running 205's as well and only turning 5500 tops. I had a shop put them in and I'm wandering if they put in the correct (mine)gears in. Shouldn't I be turning more rpm? Race Most guys at the track say the hav 3.42's and are running over 6000.

might want to look into valve train there mud i had stock valve springs last year motor wouldn't turn over 5500 got almost 1000 rpm gain by just going to z-28 springs another thing wich glide do you have if you have the 1.67 your at a 6.22 wich would be the same as a guy with a 1.82 and 3.42. another thing you might want to look at is does everybody run the same size tire as you in my class there are guys that run 3.08-4.11 all in the same class but the 4.11 guys are running 86 in roll where the 3.08 guys are running 78 in tires

No such thing as a 1.67 'Glide, only a 1.76 or a 1.82. Big diff.
