Plugs are more accurate on reading a rich/lean condition but i think what you described is an ideal situation.

I agree i thought gray was good. black was rich, white was lean. check plugs to verify but it sounds like you are good.

The tan color on the plugs and the gray in the headers is good. What part of the spark plug was black?

If you idled at all that's where the black is from.I wouldn't worry at all sounds like you have it just right.

Gray is good. If she's running alright, you're all set. If the mixture is about right, the headers will show gray. Learn how to read plugs, that'll show you a lot more!

hey guys i dont mean to interrupt, but my ole rusty headers start to turn white on the outside part of the header up close to the head and it goes down the header about 3 inches, am i too lean?

Mine do the same. Not shure what it is but it never caused any problems.
