I have a metric chassis car with the stock rear end in it, with 4 inch offset rims in the back and american racer tires. there is probably an inch to an inch and a half of clearance between the tire and frame. I was told that the tire will rub. I have not run the car yet so i dont know. my ? is, can anybody tell me for sure. I'm not supposed to run wheel spacers either. Thanks

we had that problem. We run a metric and with the four inch the RR rubs the frame.
We put 1 inch spacer and haven't had a problem. You will also want to check the left upper control arm for any slop. We found ours had worbled the hole and that was contributing to the rub as it let the rearend move in and the tire would rub.

The GM Metric rear ends are not very tough when it comes to strong axles.Since you have a GM Metric car I would run a GM large bodied car like 75-77 Monte Carlo-Malibu rear end in it since it is a GM.They are tougher and you will not have rubbing problems and you can run the 4" off-sets.

Just a thought.

Well in the future I will change the rear end to a better one but for now I am stuck running this one so I have to make the best of it. It sounds like the 3 inch offset rims should work for now. Thanks for the replys.

Do the big metric rear ends have the same bolt spacing?

The wheel bolt space is the same.

Hope this helps.

Steve comments:
I think the GM Metric rear-ends are not worth as far as you can throw them.

The Big GM in certain modles have an axel that bolts in like a 9" ford that does not have the C-Clips and I think these are good rear-ends but the 9" Ford is the toughest and easiest to deal with.
