You need to have about an inch (give or take a little) of free travel.. that means you can move your clutch pedal that far before the throwout bearing contacts the pressure plate...It will move easy till you feel it touch..Also there are lots of ways to keep the rod from falling out one way is a return spring..But I have a better suggestion if your interested..Hope this helps....Towman

OK...theres a dimple on the fork where the rod centers up drill it a little bigger than the rod....I like to use an old shifter rod there usually threaded a long way and have the crook on the other end...Run a couple of nuts on the threaded end down quite a ways slide a GM rocker ball on there (fits the dimple real good) then on the back side run 2 more nuts get the clutch adjusted like you want it and then Jam the nuts down and it will be there for the long haul....hope it works good for you.....Towman
