how hard is it to change the ring and pinion in a 9 inch third member? I have a case with a 2.90 gear in it that i want to put a 4.00 gear in. Is there anything i have to buy other than the gears?

One of these other guys can verify this but I dont think your 2.90 carrier will work with the 400 you will need to find a carrier to accept the 400 ring gear its been yrs since I got into this so maybe someone else will clear it up for you....Towman

the ring and pinion and a new crush ring is all you need. a 9" isn't like a GM rear.....the carriers are interchangeable. some are 2 pinion and some are 4 pinion, but they interchange. besides, you're going to dump all the spider gears and use a mini spool, right?

when i do this should i put a lightweight spool in it? i heard you can save like 13 pounds of rotating weight. is this true and will i notice a difference over a mini spool?
thanks for the help guys

every little bit helps, but you won't notice any difference in a mini spool or a lightweight full spool. it's the cumulative effects of all the little things that you will notice.
