Author Topic:   Hooking Up!

I work on a pit crew for a buddy of mine in a Street Stock division on a 3/8 dirt track. The car hooks up pretty well and we run decent.

Last week at the track we noticed that a couple of guys had marked a line on their tires and rims before the race. After the race we noticed that the marks no longer lined up. The line was separated as much as an inch and half!!. This is only after the heat race which is 10 laps for us. These guys are hooking up so well the tire is rotating on the rim. These guys of course are couple of the fast guys out there.

We scale the car and we think that we are close on our numbers. We were just wondering if anybody could shed some light on to getting the car hooked up? thanks

Just think if they had a photo finish he may have needed that inch and a half!

Sounds like these guys that slipped the tires are running low air pressure. Seems to me you would want to run a beadlock and lower your tire pressure. If you can't run bead lock then you take the rick of spinning the tire in the rim like they did or worse.

Do you think that we need to be running lower pressures than 11 and 15 across the back?

Years ago we had to run any 60 series radial tire and I ran 275 60s with 10 and 12 in the rear on 10 in wheels with beadlocks on a short 1/4 mile track bad dryslick.....Towman
