what is the best final ratio to run on a 4/10 mile or 1/2 mile track with a little banking. I only want to run at the most 6200rpm.

with an 80 in roll on the rear i run a 5.74 t-350 first gear 2.28 rear end i turned 6200 on the 4/10 and 6400 on the 1/2 think a 3.73 in 2nd would work better because my tranny only lasted 2 nites running in 1st on that big a track. if your running a ford rear end tho a 5.83 would be a pretty good gear for bolth tracks to turn around your rpm range depending on tire roll

So do you think its better to run in 2nd gear. I was told to use a 3.73 and run in 2nd gear. I have a 28 in tall tire so I,m assuming thats a 88 in roll. With the taller tire I put a 3.89 rear gear in my ford rear end and only turned 4100 rpm. That really sucked. I tried 1st and over reved and threw all my belts wich showed another problem. So I got 4 laps in and went home after 4 hard months of work. Put the car in the back yard and havent touched it in a week. But I'm calmed down a little now so I'm ready to get it fixed.

I think it is better for the tranny to run high gear and just buy a set of 5.83 gears and put in your rear end. The 5.83 will put you in the RPM range you want at both tracks.
