I have a Muncie transmission and a Ford 9" rear end.
Just wondering what everybody preference for brand and weight for these two items?

you can't go wrong with mobil 1 synthetic.

It sound like both of you prefer synthetic, the extra cost must be well worth it.

If (when) I do switch over to synthetic how well do I have to clean the inside of the items, I heard that they don't mix well, but if I just pull the plug and let them drain, is that good enough, or do I need to remove the cover and spray them down and really clean them up good before I refill.

Valvoline 80W90 never had a problem

synthetic will mix with regular gear oil. i still like to get as much out of the housing as possible though.

Like Stormy I put 80w-90 in both trans and rearend. As for the synthetics now adays they can be mixed (least the motor oil) id suspect the same for the rear end, just drain it and add the synthetic if thats what you are going to run. Eddie

If you don't have a leaky gear or trans the synthetic will free up some horsepower. Can't be claimed and you can reuse it when you change gears. Just strain it through a red rag and put it back in.

Good luck,
