We don't run an alternater and use an Ultima
gell cell battery. This is the second year that we have done this and it works well. Just don't forget to charge the battery before you go to the track. We use a trickle charge to charge the battery slow.

The Ultima is very good. If you run a wet cell without an alternator use a deep cycle battery. SLEEPY

on the deep cycle batt. do you have to drain them down because of memory before you charge them or is that a thing of the past?

Two year free full replacement. Not to many batteries will last more than two years. Yea I know they say five years but in 18 months or so leave your light on in the parking lot and try to get the thang to work well after that. Don't know about the gells though. I can't afford'em.

The golf cart batteries seem to be the way to go,i'll be trying it out when i get a chance.SLEEPY did a article on this in CIRCLE TRACK but didn't mention those for the 6 volt, they are strong enuf that two together can be used to weld with a hand-held mig setup.

I was able to get the yellow top Optima off ebay for $127, that included shipping,
it was brand new in the package w/date stamp on it.

Beats Summit price of $172.

Check it out or just search for Optima Yellow.

Here's one:

Been using golf cart 6v can run 3 nights with out a worry .I run msd and dual electric fans and no alt.Two 6v cost me $125.00 if you have weight in the rear you can use these batts in place of it 2 batts weight about 120 lbs.The 2 together have 210 reserve @ 75 amp draw.I'm drawing about 28 amps they should last in the 8-10 hr range without a charge constant use.Be careful to keep away from metal they will fry things quickly.

my friends modified in sponsered by the local Interstate Batteries and they have told me what ever i do,, don't run a deep cycle battery they are not made to take the vibration of dirt track racing. i would go with the optima yellow top, because i heard that the red tops are slipping in quality but are still good.
