What is the proceedure to change the front tranny seal in a 3 speed Saginaw manual transmission? I'm seeing oil on the floor and it's definently tranny oil. Can't be good for the clucth! Thanks

ps It does have a seal doesn't it?

after removing the trans, look at the 4 bolts holding the bearing retainer\nose cone, remove them and look on the back side, there is a small seal there, that goes over the input shaft....that is the one you are wanting to replace...........ford5

ultra black won't work there. you'll need the correct press-in seal. you can use silicone to seal the bearing retainer to the transmission case though, just be careful not to plug the little drainback hole at the bottom.

When You get the correct seal I have a little trick I use to tighten up the seal... Take the new seal and carefully pull the spring out of the back side. If you look closely you will see where the spring is twisted/******* together. Unscrew the spring and cut 1/8" off the big end. ***** it back together, put the spring back into the seal, and then press it into the transmission. Believe me this will tighten up your seal and really works!
