Author Topic:   Coil Spring Question

I got two different AFCOIL springs that are 12 inch long and 5.5 in diameter. I used the tool box spring rate calculator, but wanted to make sure everyone on here agrees. I counted the active coils on the first spring to be 4 with a wire diameter of .7235. This calculated to around 900#. The second spring has 5 active coils with .786 wire diameter. This calculated to around 1000#. Does this sound correct? Was a bit confused about the active coils. Tool box said to count both sides. Is this correct?

if they are racing springs the rate should be stamped in the flat part of the spring
