I finally got around to checking out the spring heights and rates this past weekend when it was nice out. The front right spring was the only one that had any markings on it, and it was at 925. All of them were close to 12 inches and looked like they were old truck springs, but I could see where he cut them with a torch. I will be running a ford, and a 351w engine. I know that fords are lighter, so would that be why he went with lighter rates on the right front? He also only ran on a 1/2 mile flat track, whereas I'll be on a 1/3 and 3/8 medium banked track. Any suggestions on height and rates to start with?

Also, I don't want to go out and buy a rate tester, would rather just start fresh so I KNOW what I have under there. Thanks everyone!

odb93 is right, buy springs to get the rates you want. The option is to get a spring rater and spend the time to become very knowledgable about springs. By the way this will kill your racing time for at least a year. When you cut a spring it is stronger not weaker.

One more thing, this comes from building a 79 t-bird, unless you do some very creative engineering this car will be front heavy. Check it on scales before you buy springs then tell the spring co. what you have to get their recommendation. SLEEPY

Hey Bob......

Shotokan is the Martial Art that I teach, and have studied for the past 10 years, thus the buff part. I love it!

Nothing illegal about the name or what it implies, although..........nah, first time racer this season, better learn the ropes first. lol

Oh, and thanx everyone for their replies. The guy I bought it off of, cut about a foot off the front of the car, I assume to get some of the weight off there, but not too sure I suppose, he could have been an idiot. One will never know.....
