2x3x11 ga. square tube if you have to meet a minimum weight. 2x2 if you don't.

If you are starting to build the car I would take 2x2x3 and connect it to the rear kickup and through the front firewall and mount your cage to it on the inside of the car. You can make them symetrical and run it out towards the door or on the passengers side you could run it straight from the kickup and through the firewall into the subframe offsetting the cage. To me the easiest way to do it is from the inside of the car. Eddie

On outlaw and c21's post for those who don't know 11 gauage and .125 for all intensive purposes are the same.

NEIL THE WAY WE DO IT IN SOUTH GA IS BASICIALLY LIKE A LATE MODEL TAKE THE 2X2 AND CONNECT THE FRONT AND RUN IT THE LENGTH OF THE REAR SUB FRAME AT THE FRONT OF IT WHEN IT STARTS THE UPWARDS TURN STOP THERE AND THEN RUN 1.5 ROUND TUBING FROM THERE TO THE REAR UNDER THE AXLE TO THE REAR OF THE CLIP THEN USES 2 X 3 ACROSS THE REAR AND CONNECT IT THERE THIS GIVES ALOT OF STIFFNES TO THE FLIMSY REAR CLIPS THEY HAVE AND ITS DONE LIKE THEY DO JIG CARS AND IF U REALLY NEED MORE INFO CALL RUSSELL BROWN RACE CARS IN VALDOSTA GA OR CHECK IT OUT ON RUSSELLBROWNRACECARS.COM HE HAS BUILT LIKE THIS FOR YEARS
