Hi Bob, its okay to run the 16 volts with the MSD. MSD has circuitry to limit the intake of voltage into the box to about 10 volts which is what is needed for proper ignition. The reason for using 16 volts is to provide insurance that at least 10 volts will be available when not using an alternator (front weight, slight power loss). Some years ago, Dr. Chris Jacobs, Jacobs Electonics, told me the electronic ignitions, his, MSD, HEI etc could all stand at least 24 volts. He thought a safe maximun to be the 18 volts which I have used for 20 years with no problems. SLEEPY
