Most use there glides in drive, in that case it doesnt matter.

input shaft length one is 127/8 that's the182 the other is 1 5/8 thats the176 the182(left this out last timehands faster than brain syndrome) came with most of the six cyl or at least thats what i've found them connected to

OK once and for all this is the powerglide story. The 1.82 came in 4 and 6 cyls mostly. it is 2.2lbs lighter than the 1.76 which came in most V-8's the input shaft lenght is 12 5/8" for 1.82 and 12 7/8 for 1.76 but an easier way to tell with 99% accuracy is the output spline on the fine spline glides measures 1.145-1.150 for a 1.82 and 1.165-1.170 for a 1.76 (some of the early ones came with a coarse spline)
