who makes the best adjustable spacer that fits the front of a metric? and do you have to do any work to the frame to make them work?

You will need to flatten out the tabs in the spring pocket for the spacer to sit flat. I ran the speedway spacers, and they moved around alot and caused some weird handling problems. I canned them and put in stock length springs. You might want to see if you need to weld them in place - I didn't. Some of the other drivers may have had success with them, find out what they did.
