Depends on what wissota does with the engine rules for next season,If no change the 406 is better for most track conditions. the spec. is short on the restarts ,the larger engines seem to have an advantage. Have you heard of any rule chages for the mods? Rumors going around of spec. only for next season.

Which sanctioning body are you racing with? some cost more than others to run with. Some just like to make money, (see the posts under IMCA rule book)

I run under WISSOTA and I have run both open and spec motors. I like runnin the spec motor cause I think you can build a more dependable spec motor. Most of the tracks around where i run go dry dry slick so to much motor is a waste. Plus the cam rule in wissota makes the spec motor much better on restarts I think. But this is just one persons opinion.

Tom,if your spec is better on the restarts than the larger c.i. engines, would you be interested in sharing what you run for a cam? I bet your rollerd and geared very deeeeeeeep. We get beatup on the restarts by the big engines, does the roller make that much differance over a flat tappet cam ?

Compared to the flat tappet cam I used to run in my open motor my Spec motor comes on alot quicker than before! I do think a roller is a big help plus my engine builder degrees the camshaft to my driving style so that it comes on out of the corner real HARD!
