I have a question that I should have asked a long time ago. I can talk about these two track conditions all day, but if I donít know what you are striving for, I can never figure out the tricks.

So, it would be great to just have some basic opinions AND why, of what you should be doing with your set-up on a tacky track, and what you should be doing with your set-up on a dry track. I feel this could be a great ďpointersĒ thread if some of you knowledgeable fanatics could bless us with your wisdom J.

A very simple example would be something like decreasing the angle in your pull-bar when the track turns dry, so it doesnít have that initial hard shock to the tires.

Body Roll/Roll Center? Stagger? Trailing arm lengths/angles? Weight Percentages? Ride Height? Panhard Bar angles/types/lengths? Lateral movement of Pull-Bar on rear-end housing? Tire pressures? Brakes? Lead placement? Offsets? Wheelbase (leading)? LR Bite? Many more J.

I have an idea on many of these topics, but I didnít want to list just the topics that I didnít know about, so that this could be a learning experience for MANY!!!

It was tacky where we run up until about a month ago. Just watched racing Friday night on a tacky track as well.

Thought this would be good for general knowledge, not just for this season...but something you could keep with you for seasons to come.

Maybe it was a stupid idea. My bad.

no question is stupid, changing shocks by putting pop-up and tie-downs on for a slick track and increasing frame side panhard mount angle. then fine tune it with tire pressures.

Its funny that you posted this? We have been working on tring to get the car good from time ins to main with the fastest changes to do at the track. I will start by saying that i dont know alot about the dry tracks you have in the midwest but we get what we think is a dry track, wich is tight with tack on the straights and dry in the turns. Ok we start the night on a tacky kinda heavy track.

This tack is pretty easy to setup for we run about 5 deg in pullbar to keep chassis down from the bite.

We run only about 30# lr bite and 94 shocks in the rear.

We run a 3" offset on the lr and 4" on rr with 2" in front.

The panhard stays the same all night about 2" down from center on rear with 1" rake to frame 26" bar behind.

The brakes are set to the rear All.

The car is good for time in and the heat befor we start changing for the dash and the main.

First change is we pull about 30# out of the rr spring(yes take turns out about 1/2")and some times taking as much as 1 1/2" out of the rr spring.

We will do this for the dash and see how it feels.

Befor the main we will try to get stagger to 1" in the rear put a 2" on the lr and bring the pullbar down to what we feel will give us good bite without to much lift. We also will see about softer shocks if the track is smooth if not we leave the 94s on. We also get the lr bite up around 100# if its dry.

Now i have been working the last 4 or 5 races on this to get were we need to be,last weekend we were pretty close we had it up till lap 10 of the main we the car got real irratic and the track got somne ruts that were really jerking the car around. We had alot of yellows in the first 10 laps so i was down on fuel also. To try and fix it this week we will take some angle out of the pullbar keep the 94s on for the main and maybe add some lead to up the rear % for the long run. I hope this was kinda what you were looking for as to what changes are made from each track condition. We are making it are goal this year to get as much setup info that we can and finish were we finish...for now .
