Has anybody got some laps on one of these stroked 302s? How hard can I turn it. I have an 89 block with a girdle. I've heard if you lug em you'll break the block.

I have run the 347 combination for the past two seasons. I have two blocks. One from a 1968 and a new block from Ford Motorsports. The new block is about $800 but in the long run it's probobly worth it. It is beefed up in the main bearing area, and actually is about 20 pounds heavier than a stock block. I have had great luck with both motors. Just took the new one out last week for rings and bearings after about 25 nights. I run a bigger cam and turned it 8200 every night. The stock block I had smaller cam and a 7800 chip. As far as the heavy track is concerned. The ods of a motor failure, Ford or Chevy are more likly to occur on a heavy track where your doing alot of wide open throttle, lugging the engine. The 347 is definately better on the dry slick tracks. If I ran a heavy track every week, I'd have the 396 back in there.

they hold up real well, but dont use the cast scat crank if you want to turn 7500 plus and do this for a whole season you will break the crank, they dont hold up, spend the extra money on a steel forging is my best advice. the older blocks seem to hold up better i would try to find the oldest block i could if i didnt want to buy the new one,289 blocks are good. mexican blocks are also good, but hard to find....ford5

Thanks for the reply guys. How big of a track are you runnin? I turn mine about 7400 on a 1/4 and it pulls good. If I gear it for less just can't seem to get those 406's off the corner! Just wondering what kind of life I could expect out of it. How do the 396's (3.85 stroke 351W) hold up? How hard can you turn them? This may be my next build, I've got some windsor blocks.

I run a 362 windsor. I am a die hard Ford Man and I have wondered how a 302 stroker would do but, Cubic inch is horsepower!!! And with my new WISSOTA spec motor its got plenty of power!!

Breeschooten runs a 347 in his wissota late model and turns that baby hard the kid never lifts once they got it going it went well untill the fan went thru the rad but hes going to do up the same motor again

If any of you Ford guys are interested, I'll make ya a smokin' deal on an awesome set of rods....
Lentz 6.2" billet
2.000" rod journal size (turn a 351W down .100")
Bushed for .927 pins
brand new CARR rod bolts
side clearanced for 351W crank (or 302, I assume)
They come with a brand new set of custom-narrowed H bearings, too.
They weigh 777g each, a little heavy, but they are among the strongest rods made.

They are the 031 heads that were the best head out there until the N351's came out.
They have Manley severe duty valves (2.02/1.60), big roller springs, 10 degree locks and top of the line retainers.
No port work other than having one chamber repaired from a broken valve. A custom guide was installed and the seat repaired and they've been mag'd and are ready to run.
They started out as 64cc chambers but have been milled. I'm not exactly sure what they at at right now, tho.
I'll take no less than $700 plus shipping.
