Last weekend I was not able to go racin at our usual track so I just went out to Lakeside Speedway to watch. After looking around at 6 different mods, all 6 had the same panhard bar setup. They run a long bar behind the rear end mounted on the left side of the frame to the right side of the rear end. I have never seen this at our track. Pretty much everybody runs a j-bar. So can anybody fill me in on the pros/cons between the two setups? We run on a 3/8 mile track, and lakeside is 1/2 mile. Is track size a factor? I guess it is kinda like one of those...everybody else is doing it at this track and they are fast, so we should do the same...I think that is how it is at our track.

Sorry for not being too clear. What I am basically questioning is what the difference is between a panhard bar mounted behind the rear end from the left side of the frame to the right side of the rear end, and a j-bar in front of the rear end mounted on the left side of the frame and the right side of the pinion. And since we are on the subject, might as well include the difference between the above mentioned and a short bar in front of the rear end. We are going to try a short bar this weekend if we can figure out where we can mount it to make it at least 12".

the longer the panhard bar the slower it will react, vice versa on short bar. If your track is usually rough you might not like going with a shorty bar. I run shorty bar and i pull LF almost as soon as im on gas but i feel that this bar works better at my track than jbars or long bars.

ps. i have seen a guy flip his car from running a lot of rake in his short bar and hitting a rut the same time he stood on gas!!

Yup thats what i was refering too, I bicycled my car a few times that nite running with the short bar but just about everyone did at one time or another, glad they got that track smooth for the outlaws to race on.
