While it can be done you better check the size of the cage material od and thinckness because i know alot of late model cars use 1.5 and .065 thickness tubing which would not be legal for imca mods if you stubbed it.Imca mods use 1 3/4 x .095 cage material which is rarely used in latemodel cars this day in age. Just check the cage posts and top to see what size everything is.

I'm in with Rich... I bought an older Walter Newman bare chassis thinking of doing just what you are planning, but since IMCA is the biggest show in town around here, I couldn't do that because of the IMCA rule requiring 1.666 OD minimum on the main hoop, halo and A-pillars ( The Newman chassis has 1.625).

IMCA RULES DO REQUIRE THAT THE HALO, MAIN LOOP ,AND THE A PILLARS BE 1.666 (1 3/4IN.) BUT THE REST OF THE CAGE CAN BE (1 1/2IN.) SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE YOUR WORK CUT OUT FOR YOU . GOOD LUCK THE PRICE WAS DEFINTELY RIGHT .

As a fabricator of race cars for almost 10 years i can tell you it would be easier sometimes to start from scratch as i have all the equipment than to start with another car and rebuild it.

thanks guys we'll have to check the rules we are not imca but run pretty much the same rules so i'll have to see if the cage is one of them i hope it will work so i can get his old car
