Author Topic:   vacuum secondary?

Just curious as to whether anyone has tried a vacuum secondary carb like a holley 750 on a modified?

The idea is that on a real dry track maybe it would make the car easier to drive because the carb would only feed the engine what it needed under load and not pour on the power and break the tires loose like a mechanical.

Just a thought.

Maybe I need to dig out that q-jet?

I run a vac sec almost exclusively on a dry slick track, works wonders especially on a big cube motor. Its not up to par on a heavy track because they only have one accel pump, but on a dry slick track you can't beat it. The key is having one that is pro-built for oval cars on alcohol. Several manufacturers build them and they are designed to be easily adjustable to track conditions.
I still run a mech carb when the track still has grip because the vac sec just isn't responsive enough.
C&S builds them for about $1200 they are the best one that i have tried. I have run it for about 5 years now and was the best money i ever spent.
