I just went threw this whole thing. First i found a local tire shop with 2 buckets of tire lead (155 pnds each)that he sold me for $20 a bucket. Then the problem of melting it came up. I got sevaral ways from others here on the forum. I went with what things i had, wich were a metal pan and a torch. Then i went and got 2x2 and 2x3 box tubing and cut it to the size that i needed. Now the melting part i just filled my pan with the tire lead and used the torch to melt it down as i was melting the steel clip would float up and i used a metal spoon with holes to pull it out and any other contaminates out of it.It didnt take a whole lot of oyx or acy to melt down the 300 pnds i had and for the money i would say this is the cheapest way to get the lead you want. Just to let you know when the lead get real hot it POPS at you so i wore long sleve and a full face shield, also did this outside because of all the smoke. I hope this helps!!

You may also try your local metal recycleing center. Ours sells lead already melted into 20 bricks. He's cheap too.

My recycler wanted .25 a pound, so I checked with a tire shop and lucky me they gave it away like I was doing them a favor. I put some in a metal can on a fish cooker for about 45 minutes and whala, homemade weight. Yes, I picked out the metal with a spoon and stayed away from the smoke. The hardest part was pouring it out. Thanks Dirtracer for the info, it definetly helped me out.
