a engine will make the most power at 200-210 degrees. my meth engines won't run very good much lower than this. you want a good radiator and fan with schroud. just don't let it get much warmer than 200-210.

Mine wont even run well until the operating temp reaches 190 deg. under race condition it runs between 200 & 215 depending on the outside air temperature. I run a howe aluminum radiator, on the lower pulley I use a moroso reduction pulley and also run a 180 deg. thermostat with a four blade fan and a shroud. And I do think fan placement to the shroud location is very important. I space my fan so that its 1/2" to 3/4" into the shroud seems to pull plenty of air that way. If the fan is behind the shroud to far it tends to pull air around the radiator instead of through it. I also do one thing extra, Running Chevy motors they are famous for that water jacket on the rear of both heads that have no port to run through when you put your intake manifold on so the water that's there just sits there and never circulates through the system and just gets hot. so I drill and tap 1/8" pipe threads in the intake manifold on both sides in the rear where the water jacket is and also drill and tap 1/8" pipe treads in the top of the water neck install a tee in the water neck and using no bigger than 3/8 hose running back to both sides to an 1/8" pipe fitting in the intake and it will knock 10 deg. right off the top. I also manufactured an air duct using plastic that pulls air from the sides and from below the nose piece. Make sure that all the air that hits the front of the radiator has to run through it and not around it. hope this helps.

Correctly plumbing the rear and center of the heads to the thermastat housing and using the correct size restrictor in place of thermastat( thermastat is just one more piece that can cost you a race). Our two mods run 190 while racing,with No fans or shrouds. We do have an electric fan that we will turn on during a long cautions. Will install thermal switches to activate fan automaticlly, going to put 2 switches in series in case one would fail and still have manual switch to. Alky keeps the temps lower and with proper plumbing I do not believe in giving up free horse power running a mechanical fan.
