What's the purpose of the taper between the ball joint and spindle. Is it to keep from rutting at one spot or what.
Any clues?

Thanks. I think I figured it out. If they weren't tapered, it would wear grooves in each and probably fail before long because of the constant up and down and rotations all at once. Sound right?

I forgot, I was talking about the upper ball joint connection to the spindle. Instead of having it reamed out, I just drilled a big enough hole so the threads would be below the hole. I've not run it and plan to change this tomorrow.
