I have always heard that as tires go thru heat cycles on a race car, they get harder and harder.... But when your out at the track and you heat them back up, isn't there a point at which they become soft again? I see people running new tires every weekend. You might have a small advantage, but do you think it is really necessary if your car is hooked up?

Well I'm not sure about the American Racer, but after running on used Hoosiers for 5 years and putting on 4 brand new shoes, it was night and day, wicked fast in comparison. Just ** experience.

Jammin, we clean our tires every weekend with
a STEAM CLEANER. After I have them clean if you rub the palm of your hand on the treads,
it feels like the tire has glue on it. I realize that I have put heat in the tire from the steam, but it seems to put new life
in the tires that may be a little worn. If you can get your hands on a steam cleaner give it a try and see for yourself. It also works real well if you need to grow a tire a little bit to.

Racer4 I agree that used Hoosiers are not near as good as new ones. The American racer doesn't drop off as bad as the Hoosiers do when you compare new and used tires. That's why I like running the American Racer, I can't afford new ones every two weeks.

We have been having a problem with the Hoosier A-40's actually chunking/blistering pieces of rubber off on the outer tread edges, after one night.

This seems to get better the more air pressure we run (over 12 psi in the LR). however, this seems to be a disadvantage on the dry slick.

Anyone else having similar results, or are you guys just getting general tire wear/feathered edges after a couple of nights?
