Metric mods with Pinto or granada spindles, etc. Why not just use a Ford frame.
Any explanations?

ok, pinto to small and unibody, granada too small and unibody. no frame. parts from these two help with the geometry on just about every gm frame made. you can use the ford front or rear steer frames but they are a bit heavier. thats why most choose the gm frame over the ford.

Thanks guys,
I sure don't need heavier with my weight!
Think I'll just stay with what I got.

I too was afraid of a Ford until I bought a CHAMPION CHASSIS in 1993.I since have owned 6 of them.I wont own anything else. Now as far as the weight it is very little difference. The CHAMPION on the suspension page is mine.Parts for the Ford are alot easier to find, less chance of bent frame horns, plus tryed to find a 67-72 lower A-frame lately.Bump steer on the CHAMPIONS is great. But very few builders know how to do it right.!CHAMPION CHASSIS phone #319-396-7177

What type of front lower control arm is does Champion use? Is it the older rear steer with a strut rod (like a latemodel) or is it the newer style (camero type)?

bought a used champion chassis last fall and are now putting it together. a friend of mine has a rocket latemodel with a metric clip on it for his new mod and my used champion bare chassis is 27# lighter!!! complete car weight is 2340#. add some lead to make wissota weight rule and i got 61% on the rear, not to shabby. the car i bought was track champion in arlington mn in 1999 and was 3rd last year. these cars are no slouch and i've found that mike frieden is one of the nicest people to get help from. if you have any questions you will get a straight answer. if your looking to buy a car call mike or find a used one like we did, you wont be disappointed! john

I am pretty sure Mike Frieden does not build cars anymore. He "retired" last year to spend more time with his kids who are into go-kart racing. Beckler brought in Corey Dripps to start building cars again last season. Not sure if they are copy of Mike's cars or a hybrid now. Still called Champion Chassis/Becker Motorsports in Atkins, Iowa which is West of Cedar Rapids.

Anyway, that was last season.

mike freidin still is buildiing. he left becker over a year ago, and becker did not build any cars, for alomost a year because mike freidin took his equipment and jigs. mike also did not build anything for almost a year. mike owns the right to the CHAMPION name. becker is back to building cars under a different name.

Mike Freiden has a new shop in Cedar Rapids.Mike left the jigs and eqt at Beckers when he left. They owned them. The CHAMPION CHASSIS name went with Freiden,Beckers now call there cars CHAMP CHASSIS however they have only sold one car since. There building the older stlye Freiden cars with some changes that are questionable.Freiden builds his new swing arm cars that he started in 99.That is what is on the suspension page. You can call him at 319-396-7177.
