I've seen a bunch of guys over on the 4m board talking about creating a blanket set of rules to allow streets and Sportsman cars to be able to race at various tracks in the Indiana area. I'm building a Camaro which I'd like to take to several different tracks here in the SouthEast. What would you guys suggest I use as guidelines so that I'd be both eligeble to race and competitive at various different tracks. I'm thinking mose in terms of basic construction rather than gearing

We are running an Indiana street stock. They also run the same rules at a lot of tracks in Illinois. The only down side to this class it that the guys we are running aginst are so fast

Thanks for the reply. I really was hoping to start some discussion on this topic, but it never got going. I think the main reason is that there is such a variety of classes which are called "street stock."

what are some of your rules,we run what they call hobby,thunder,bomber,10" and 12" wheels,9"ford rearends,solid cams just about any carb.but each track around here has a little different rules,so you might be right at one track and a little illegal at others, lol

We run in so. Ill and follow basicly Ind. super stock rules camaro stub iron block iron heads 2800 lbs late model body

See? That's what I'm talking about! What you call a street, the track down the road calls a sportsman! And a few miles East it becomes a Superstock, but over there it's a Limited Late! I'm hoping to build a car which will be generic enough that I can take it to almost any track in the country and have a class to race it in. BUT I want to be competitive! Sooooooo...I'm thinking a Ford 9 inch,camel humps with a cast intake,a Quadrajet (with a two barrel Holley in the truck) log manifolds with pipes, stock appearing ignition, no screwjacks, stock mount shocks.
Is there a place for this car at your track? I'll mount up a set of street tires on 7" rims and a set of asphalt take offs on 10" rims---any suggestions?

I race in eastern Indiana at a track that runs street stock but the look like late models on 8" tires..Those car run at Florence and they are fast..

do you think these tracks set there rules just a little bit different just to get people to set there cars up to run there,so they can't go any where else,so they can keep a good car count all the time? set down and look at how many people come with a street stock or a mini stock.the support classes pay most of the tracks bills,when a big latemodel show comes in there will be a lot of people come watch,but a very few come with the cars,but they go up on prices that the regulars have to pay to get in racing for the same money.

Rusty9cab, I raced in the Nat'l 100 (or tried to) last year. At first they said they were going to take 4 from the heats-I finished 4th, but the next morning my name was listed to run the consi. I started 8th and was in the transfer spot when the 4th place guy turned me around and the guy behind him removed both tires and one wheel from the drivers side! Y'll got some good guys running your wreckers and the most awesome flagman I've ever seen! I hope to be back next November. That was the first time I'd ever been called an "Enduro" car!

rusty9cab, have you ever been to penton raceway? thats not real far from east alabama.what kind of goodyears do they make ya'll run.we have to run d55 spec.tires at talladega

HEY RUSTY 9 CAB I HEARD BILLY WAS GOING BACK TO HOOSIERS I HOPE SO THIS WILL BE ONE MORE REASON TO COME BACK TO EAMS IN 2003 WHEN BILLY WENT TO THE GOODYEARS IN 97 THEY DIDNT WORK WELL THEN AND SURE WANT WORK ON A HARD TRACK LIKE EAMS WAS THIS PAST YEAR I RAN MY CAR AND DROVE SOME ONE ELSE THERE THIS PAST YEAR ON 2 OCASSIONS AND NEVER SEEN ANY ONE WHAT I CALL HOOKED UP IN THE LOWER CLASSES LIKE WE GET WHEN WE RAN THE HOOSIERS THE GOODYEARS ARE A ROUNDED TIRE AND JUST ARE HARD TO MAKE WORK REGARDLESS OF COMPOUND ANOTHER THING IF U ARE ON HOOSIERS U CAN JUST ABOUT GO TO ANY OTHER TRACKS IN OUR AREA AND RUN WITH OUT BUYING TIRES ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GO TO THE 3310 CARB RULE AND GET AWAY FROM THE 1850 THESE ARE TWO REASONS WHEN IT CAME STATE RACE TIME MOST OF THE LOCALS CANT RUN BECAUSE OF BUYING TIRES TO BE COMPETIVE AND LETTING THEM RUN THE 3310 CARBS
