What is the best material for doing this in a Metric car, and how is the best way to deal with getting around the driveshaft? I need to get started on this, but having a brain lapse. Can someone help? Thanks.

dode, I used roll bar tubing on mine, I'm sure 1 1/2" will work fine. As far as getting around the driveshaft, have the "X" cross as near the rear of the trans as possible. It's easier with the body and interior removed.(bare frame) Also I put the "X" under the trans level. This stumped me too. I ended up looking at pic's of how other people did it. Hope this helps! loojack

Hmmm...that kinda made sense, but kinda not. Do you have these pics that you talked about? I have looked around but couldn't find any. Right now I have a bare frame to work with, so the sky is the limit basically.

we just use 1 1/4 tubing that we use in the chassis just makes a simple x and mount it as low in the frame rails as posible we have even mounterd them on the bottom with some angle iron to make tabs to weld it too then take some 1x3 square and make your cross member

how big should I make it? like spacing between the two tubes on one side of the car, and how far forward or back should it be? The rear one I have figured out...

dode, i agree with loojack on placement of the "X". cross the tubes directly behind transmission. it also makes a handy place to mount your driveshaft loop. i use 1"x2" square tube for the "X" brace.

it will be strongest if you make the "X" square. the tubes should intersect at a 90 degree angle.

make the "X" as wide as it is long. however wide your frame rails are is how long your "X" should be to have the most strength.

hope this helps, it's kind of hard to explain with a keyboard.

two additional 1"x2" tubes perpendicular to the frame rails running from the center of the "X" out to the frame rail on both sides will make your car super stout.

I "x'd my metric and made the intersection of the two 1"X2" tubing behind the trans just as loojack suggested. I also ran one across the car like outlawstock said-it saved my car from being destroyed one night. The frame "puckered" on both sides, but if it weren't there I'll betcha that shot in the door would have bent an un braced frame at least 5"or 6"! I also used a piece ot 1/4" flat stock on top of the X to support the rear of the trans.
