I came across a pretty good deal on an '88 IROC camaro that I really don't want to pass up. The guy that has it is make me an offer of $250 and it's in fair running condition. Has anyone ever set up a car like this to race. I have seen a few of 'em and the guys that raced'em were FAST. But I know the front end is pretty weak on'em so I was wondering about replacing the front clip on it w/ a 70's camaro clip and still taking advantage of the 88's rear suspension. Would this work? Has anyone ever done this? What do ya'll think the pros and cons of this type of setup would be. Just looking for ya'lls opinions. Thanks in advance. I appreciate it.

one really good thing about these cars is they have a torque arm running up to the trans for bite they may bite so much you may have to take some bite out!but the front end is weak one guy said one tap and his strut would bend in half almost so if u could strengthen them you could stay with the original stub another problem is getting enuf negative camber in the rt front without cutting the towers up,oh and the stock struts won't hold up in racing conditions it seems after a few laps it's almost as though you have no shocks at all.

Justin ran against a kid that had an 85 with an 80's subframe under it the car was very fast, he connected it in with 2x2x3 seemed to work well, have thoght about this myself. Eddie

keep building them te33. it's only a matter of time before there are no metrics or 2nd generation camaros left. you'll be way ahead of everyone else when they HAVE to start building them. i'm running an '89 mustang with basically the same modified macpherson strut front end as the 3rd generation camaro. raced it 8 times so far and i'm gettin' real close........

NEWER CAMAROS ARE WEAK IN FRONT, BUT IF YOU ACTUALLY LOOK AT IT FROM ANOTHER SIDE, YOU CAN PUT A 2X3 TUBE STRAIGHT ACCROSS ABOVE THE FRONT SPRINGS, ATTATCHING IT TO THE ONLY STEEL ON THE CAR( THE LITTLE CLIP, CROSS MEMBER) YOULL HAVE TO SPLIT THE TIN FRONT RAIL AND DROP IT IN, AND REDRILL THE PS BOX MT, OF COURSE THEN YOU WANT TO FINISH CONNECTING THE SUBFRAMES SO YOU END UP WITH A FAB CAR FRONT TO REAR ITS NOT THAT HARD, JUST A MESSY JOB IF YOU DONT HAVE IT ALL REALLY CLEAN TO START.. IF YOU DONT REINFORSE IT LIKE THIS YOULL BE REPLACING THE FRONT END FREQUENTLY..

WHEN YOU CUT THE ANGLES IN THE RECT TUBING CUT HALF ON EACH PIECE, 22.5 FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU WANT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE THEYLL FIT RIGHT UP PERFECT.

ALSO KYB STRUTS HAVE OVERSIZED SHAFTS AND ARE GETTING CHEAPER EVERY DAY IN SUMMIT..
